Good bad days

I actually really appreciate bad days...when they are over.

Here is a picture that over-dramatically depicts how we feel on bad days.

The truth is, though, that there are days when this picture would not be over the top. Sometimes you just feel like conjuring lightning storms, and there's not much you can do about it.

There is no question that bad days are utterly miserable. However, for some reason they tend to yield unusually high amounts of insights and learning. So it's kind of like a lose-win situation (in that order). You put in some time suffering, and you somehow feel better afterward.

Here are some neat nuggets I learned, relearned, or just plain thought about today:
  1. School, work, and play are all really great, but my most important priority is my relationship with Heavenly Father.
  2. My relationship with Heavenly Father grows through prayer, study, and interacting with others in meaningful, uplifting ways.
  3. Even though it's super important to get out there and interact with others, I need time alone to get to know myself, to ponder, and to enjoy inspiration.
  4. The most important part of "alone time" is the "alone" part. No music, computers, internet, cell phones, etc. allowed. Just me. Alone. With God. Ok, so not completely alone...
  5. Even if my attitude is 100% in the toilet, I can still be grateful for what the Savior has done. Also, I tend to get to know Him a lot on bad days. So, can they still technically be considered bad days? Yes, they can.
Okay, so I think I've mastered the art of being grateful for bad days after the fact. I still have a long way to go on appreciating them in the moment. Life is neat.

What's the coolest thing you've ever learned from a bad day?

  1. Tyler! Thanks for your posts - their always great and very insightful. And, I agree with what you said, I usually work the hardest to be doing what's right when I'm going through a hard time and therefore, I usually end up coming out of it even happier than I was going into it. So...I guess you're right - bad days can actually turn out to be pretty good. :)
